HOLYWELL

An important Welsh gateway since Roman times the area has a rich industrial and religious heritage. Since the seventh century,
it has been a destination for pilgrims who travel from around the world to pay homage at the Shrine of St. Winefride and bathe in the healing waters of the well, the "Lourdes of Wales". In the eighteenth century, the abundant water resources in the Greenfield Valley, combined with the exploitation of local mineral resources gave the area an unrivalled status as a milling and
mining centre.

Today, Holywell is a lively trading and recreational area which continues to attract visitors from near and far.
