Sports enthusiasts will find that the Sports Centre and Swimming Pool can provide a wide variety of activities and Crown Green Bowling devotees can enjoy a game in the Town Park or step back in time and play on the Bailey Hill Green situated on the Plateau of the Bailey. Mold is also famous for its contribution to Welsh culture. Today the town continues its strong cultural tradition through Theatr Clwyd which is a provincial theatre with a national reputation. Theatr Clwyd also hosts the Mold Carnival in June. This is a huge extravaganza of fun and entertainment. Mold is an ideal centre to stay whilst touring the spectacular beauty spots in the area. Loggerheads, three miles from Mold on the A494, is an area of outstanding natural beauty and has been popular with visitors for over 70 years. Since its acquisition and promotion by Clwyd County Council as a Country Park and Visitor Centre the area has become a major tourist attraction. Turn right off the A494 just past Loggerheads and this narrow forest road leads to Moel Fammau which is the highest peak in the Clwydian Range (1,820 feet) and a magnificent view of six counties can be enjoyed from the viewing point on the summit. A pleasant afternoon can be spent walking along the wooden paths of the Leete between Loggerheads and Rhydymwyn. This area provided inspiration for the composer Mendelssohn. Mold has something to offer all ages and its unique attraction is that it successfully combines a modern shopping centre with its street markets while retaining its fascinating old world charm. |
